SUMMARY
Electrical Engineer for Medium Voltage Drive (MVD) System Test plans and performs tests on MVDs and related components to ensure quality, performance, and safety. Responsibilities include developing test plans, performing tests, analyzing test data, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring compliance with industry standards. This role requires strong knowledge of variable frequency drives, medium voltage system, and testing methodologies.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Design and Develop Test Plans
  • Create detailed test procedures for electrical systems related to MVD, circuits, and components.
  • Define testing criteria based on industry standards and project requirements.
  1. Perform Electrical Testing
  • Conduct functional, performance, and reliability tests on MVD system and components like switchgear, transformer and cables.
  • Use instruments like oscilloscopes, multimeters, and power analyzers.
  1. Troubleshoot and Diagnose Issues
  • Identify faults or failures in electrical systems.
  • Recommend corrective actions and improvements.
  1. Analyze Test Data
  • Interpret results to ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Prepare detailed reports documenting findings and recommendations.
  1. Ensure Compliance
  • Verify adherence to safety regulations (such as NFPA 70E and OSHA, and IEEE standards).
  • Support certification processes for electrical products.
  1. Collaborate with Design and Manufacturing Teams
  • Provide feedback and recommendation to engineers for design improvements.
  • Assist in root cause analysis for failures during production.
  1. Maintain Test Equipment
  • Calibrate and maintain testing instruments.
  • Ensure proper functioning and accuracy of tools.
  1. Continuous Improvement
  • Develop automated test systems where possible.
  • Optimize testing processes for efficiency and accuracy.
  1. Other Responsibilities
  • Occasionally perform on-site testing as required.
  • Carry out additional tasks or projects as assigned by supervisor.
Required skills and qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field is typically required,  a Master's degree is preferred.
  • Experience: 5+ years of experience with MVD and VFD systems, including testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting.
  • Technical knowledge: Strong knowledge of medium voltage drives, power distribution, protection systems and equipment is essential.
  • Software proficiency: Proficiency in electrical simulation tools, test software, Microsoft Office Suite, and potentially 2D/3D CAD systems.
  • Other skills: Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills are crucial. Experience with product certification processes (e.g., UL, CSA, CE) is often a plus.
