About the Role
TECO-Westinghouse Motor Company is seeking a highly motivated System Engineer – Applications & R&D to support the development and application of advanced drone motor and electronic speed controller (ESC) technologies. This role combines customer-facing technical support with hands-on research and development engineering.
Approximately 50% of the role focuses on supporting customers and sales teams with technical expertise, product integration, troubleshooting, and performance optimization. The remaining 50% focuses on R&D activities including system modeling, embedded development, FPGA support, prototyping, and testing of motor drive systems.

Key Responsibilities
Technical Support & Sales Enablement
- Provide pre-sales and post-sales technical support for drone motors and ESC products
- Assist customers with system integration, troubleshooting, and performance optimization
- Support sales teams during customer meetings, technical evaluations, and product demonstrations
- Conduct testing and validation activities including motor and ESC matching
- Prepare technical documentation, application notes, and test reports
- Serve as a technical liaison between customers, sales, and engineering teams
Research & Development Engineering
- Develop and perform system modeling and simulation using MATLAB/Simulink
- Support FPGA development including logic design, debugging, and verification
- Contribute to embedded software and firmware development for motor control systems
- Participate in prototype development, testing, and validation activities
- Analyze test results and recommend design improvements for performance and reliability
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams on R&D initiatives and technical projects
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Controls Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field
- Hands-on experience with electric motors, motor drives, or ESC systems
- Working knowledge of MATLAB/Simulink for modeling and simulation
- Familiarity with FPGA development and/or embedded software programming
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
Preferred
- Experience in drone, UAV, robotics, or aerospace applications
- Experience with motor control algorithms such as FOC, PWM, and sensor- less control
- Proficiency in C/C++, VHDL/Verilog, or similar programming languages
- Familiarity with power electronics, laboratory instrumentation, and testing environments
Skills & Competencies
- Strong understanding of BLDC motor control, power electronics, and embedded systems
- Experience with firmware development and real-time control systems
- Ability to prototype, troubleshoot, and optimize motor/ESC systems
- Strong communication and collaboration skills in a cross-functional environment
- Self-starter with the ability to manage projects independently in a fast-paced setting
Certifications (Preferred but Not Required)
- MATLAB/Simulink certifications
- Certified LabVIEW Associate Developer (CLAD)
- Embedded systems or control engineering certifications
- FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate
- Professional Engineer (PE) License
